Tracker UI demo

I did some hacking today, when should be studying… So I put together a simple GUI for Tracker, pimped it with Cairo and some gnome-vfs for mime type and icons. Not alot of work actually, but it’s sort of useful. I know, Tracker already has GUI tracker-search-tool but I just wanted to code something more eye-candy-ish (like that’s a word).

Here is a screencast encoded in Ogg/Theora video - click.

The code is a mess, I coded this app quickly with Monodevelop, but I can clean it up and release it if anyone’s interested.

Oh yeah, and Tracker really rocks, I guess I’m sick of Beagle hogging my system. Tracker only needs to support more information sources and a better GUI IMO.

Any chance you could put up a quick screenshot?

I know it probably doesn’t show the GUI’s full glory, but I’m at work and can’t view Ogg/Theora here :(

I totally agree, Tracker deserves to be as well known as Beagle. I think it needs of course to support more format, but also some buzz. And some eye candies also. Did you see the new GUI? I think a mix of yours with it would be nice. The tabs are a good idea, the icon changing is another one, the metadata browser I saw somewhere for Nautilus is a third one (http://njpatel.blogspot.com/2007/02/nautilus-metadata-love-at-first-sight.html). Would be nice to have a preview of the doc instead of the icon when possible, and with the metadata on the right. Tracker has a huge potential, let’s hope it will be better integrated in Gnome (like in Nautilus for instance). Too bad I can’t help on dev.
